US Adventure – People Exploration – Day 7 – Chris at Oxford Inn in Lancaster

Chris said that he’s been working here at the Oxford Inn for years as a sanitation engineer.

When asked what would he say was the best part of his job, he said that it was meeting new people, that in meeting new people – it truly made his day exciting. On this day, there was an array of action, because there were the actors of Top Gear the TV show and other production crew members who were staying at the hotel.

Chris added that every day, people from all over world came to stay at the hotel.

In response to – What do you like best about this area? – At first he couldn’t think of something that he liked the best, but he did not like the constant wind the most.

Then, after a moment’s thought, Chris said he liked the poppy fields the best and that they are beautiful, even though their season was limited every year.

When asked – “If you ruled the world for one day, what would you invoke on the world to do? What law would you have enforced?”

Chris replied, “No electronics for one day, at least for that day.” He added that he thought the people would thank him because then they would need to get face to face in order to communicate verbally. There would be more personal interaction this way. They would then have a conversation -“like you and I are doing, instead of texting and and surfing the web.”

US Adventure – People Exploration – Day 4 – Bob at Lancaster Poppy Reserve

It was a cool, cloudy and windy day when I went to the poppy fields Reserve west of Lancaster California. There was a man sitting on a concrete bench and I could tell by his body language that he was of a friendly and pleasant nature. My sister even suggested that I might want to talk with him.

That’s when I met Bob simply by asking him if I could sit down on the bench with him. He said he was from Hesperia California and that he was now retired.

His wife and two grandchildren had gone on walking around the corner looking at all the poppies which were not totally open due to the fact that it was a cloudy morning.

Bob said that he had lived in the area most all of his life and had traveled to the poppy fields a couple of times prior. He said he was rather tired because he was still recovering from the flu. He didn’t have the energy he needed to walk around and see all the poppies on the hillsides.

Bomb has been retired for a number of years but when he we worked he worked as a meat cutter at Vons and at Safeway. Now he and his wife travel around the country in a fifth wheel. When I asked what he liked best of all the vacation spots or tourist spots, he said he liked Mount Rushmore. He added that he did not like to rush around but to spend more time in places that they visited.

There had been times in the past when he and his wife did not really enjoy any time at each location but just spent more time driving. Now, his intention is to spend two or three days at every place they visit.

When I asked him what he would do if he ruled the world for one day, Bob replied that he wasn’t sure what he would do, because everybody is different and has different needs. He thought – maybe it would be great to just give them one day at Mount Rushmore.

US Adventure – People Exploration – Day 3 – Numbers in the Sand

My great People Exploration Adventure continued on  Day 3 at  Huntington Beach CA. I had a first goal – draw numbers in the wet sand while the waves rolled in. It was more like a mission – yes, like a life or death mission. Yet, it was my life’s mission to draw numbers in sand while  I listened to the waves pound steadily on to the shore.

It’s all about my meditation. Getting to a truly relaxed state of calm meditation in the length of one minute. One minute as in 60 seconds. Achieve focus. Gain connection with the Infinite.

Some people call it prayer. Other like Neale Donald  Walsch might call it “Conversation with God”.

Since I was a young boy, I had problems with prayer. I always felt it was toward a ‘being’ who didn’t care and never seemed to answer. Yet, many people told me that … that God … was Infinite.

“How could that be?” I usually asked.

Again … no answers ever came.

Let’s get to the numbers … if it’s okay with you?

I made sure that my footprint in the sand got into the photo and I stuck the stick with which I made the numbers into the beach sand right next to my rectangle 1 through 6.

This is how the meditation goes …

While you breathe in, imagine you are carving 1,2,3,4,5, and 6 into the beach sand while beginning a vertical pattern. Then, hold the breath in, while you write in your imagination a horizontal 1,2,3,4,5, and 6 into the sand, but listen and hear the ocean waves pound onto the beach. Hear the waves and hear your stick scratching the numbers into the wet sand.

It’s important to … SEE the numbers being drawn.

Then, forming a small ‘O’ with your lips, begin a slow, slow exhale. Releasing the air from your lungs through that small O. And also count down from 6, drawing the numbers – 6,5,4,3,2,1 – vertically downward. during your slow exhale … while listening to hear the waves pound and the stick scratching the beach sand. Of course, SEE the numbers you form.

Then do another 6,5,4,3,2,1 while breathing out … to finish the rectangle.

You’re there. Connected to the Infinite. Actually, you are always connected to the Infinite (because that’s what ‘Infinite’ means, doesn’t it?). It’s just that doing this tremendously quick series of a 4 – 6 count rectangle, your mind shifts it’s focus from the Life stuff that gets in the way … to the connection that’s “here and now” with the Infinite that’s always ‘here and now’.

What people told me that might take hours … or never … now comes easily in a happy 60 seconds.

US Adventure – People Exploration – Day 3 – Andy – Huntington Beach, CA

After I finished my writing of numbers in the sand on the beach at the Pacific Ocean, I stopped a surfer dude walking along the beach while he was carrying his surf board.

Andy …

Andy told me that he worked as a trucking leasing manager for over 20 years. He admitted that it was tough driving an hour to work every day and then an hour home, but in some ways the drive was very well worth it – he liked the network of people.

Yes, it was the network of people that was the best thing about his job. Over the years, he was happy that he had built a network of a lot of people that he could trust. When you have people who are trustworthy and in your network, it makes your job and world and life so much easier.

If he ruled the world for one day, he thought that maybe he would declare each  person would have it as a “World Beach Holiday” so everyone could go out to the beach and have the day off. Even the people who lived in mid-continent should have a day to go to the beach – plus even if was winter where they lived. Yes, a day at the beach – Andy would declare it as law.

He has lived in the area all his life and went to school in the area at Huntington Beach High School.
And then on to college.

US People Exploration Travels – Day 2

  1. Today is day 2 for the Great Adventure and opportunity that I am on. I’m in Blythe California and I’ve been talking to Lena who has lived in the area all her life. She works as a waitress at the Courtesy Coffee Shop and for something light but delicious, she recommended the dinner salad with ranch dressing.

When I asked her if there were any special attractions in the area, she told me about the Colorado River. And then, after thinking about it for a second, she mentioned that the area was famous for the Intaglios, which are ruins about 15 miles north of Blythe in the Colorado desert.
Legends have it that the ruins were created by aliens of distant galaxies for the Native American Indians.
